This jig is for changing the function of the grindstone. The Tormek grindstone is constructed so that with the Stone Grader it can be treated to change its property from fast grinding to fine grinding, i.e. sharpening. The grading of the grindstone is made by pressing the fine side of the Stone Grader onto the grindstone, which makes it work as a fine-grit stone (approximately 1000 grit). When pressing the coarse side onto the grindstone, the smoothened surface is returned to its normal condition (220 grit). This process does not place excessive wear on the grindstone and can be repeated any number of times. For use with the Tormek T-7 and T-3 sharpening systems.

The Tormek Stone Grader is a double-sided dressing stone which works well. Whether you use it on a wet-grind system (such as a Tormek), or if you are a farmer/mechanic/hobbyist who tends to round out and groove his wheels in everyday use/abuse, the thing works. It is more expensive, but it is harder than many carborundum stones and my guess is it will last long enough to prove worth the cost. The two sides supposedly give you two distinct grinding surfaces on the same wet grindstone; though I 've only used it dry. Dresses wheels quickly in the backyard shop so you can get on with your business. I'm certainly satisfied, even if grampa would have a stroke at paying that much for it...but what the heck; he'd have had a stroke at paying $.50 a gallon for gas, so I guess it's all relative...

If you have the Tormek system, you will need this item. It serves several purposes. The first is it grades the round stone working surface at your desired grit. It also flattens the stone in betweeen truing the surface. Lastly it dresses out impurities causing rust left over in the stone in between uses. If your kit doesn't have it already, buy one!

If you own a TORMEK, and you're not using one of these graders, you're cheating yourself. One side of this stone is coarse, and "opens" the TORMEK's grinding wheel... making it good for quickly removing a lot of material. Then, when the other side of this stone is applied to the wheel, it fills the wheel's pores and makes the wheel fine. Without this grader, you'd have to go from a very coarse grind right to the leather honing wheel... which makes a lot of honing necessary. This is the one TORMEK accessory that I regard as a "must have."

With this stone, your don't need 2 grinding stones. To renew the grit for your first grinding, use the coarse side. For a finer grind, use the fine side. You simply hold the stone against the grinding stone for a few seconds and you have changed grits on the stone or bought fresh grinding particles to the surface. It is a must have.
