Though not much smaller than a golf ball, the new Striker Magnetic LED Light is a powerful spotlight that can be used almost anywhere you need illumination. It has an intensely bright, wide angle LED and 12 powerful rare earth (neodymium) magnets that allow you to stick it to any steel surface or rest it on any surface and aim the light towards the workspace at almost any angle. Professionals, including automotive technicians, electricians, plumbers and HVAC contractors, will want to have one on hand, as it is small enough to fit into tight areas and aim a powerful beam of light where it is needed most. Because of its 12 rare earth magnets, it also works as a pick up tool for dropped screws, nails and hardware. Do-it-yourselfers and homeowners will also find hundreds of uses for the Striker Magnetic LED Light. Use it when working on an engine, changing a tire, wiring a home theater, switching on a breaker, crawling around under a counter or sink. It will stick to the fridge, making it the go-to flashlight for the whole family, and its great to have on camping trips. The potential uses are endless.

"Wasn't sure what this was at first. Now I know it's pretty useful" 2010-05-29By

When I looked at the picture and product name I wasn't sure if it was a kids toy or a dog chew toy. Then I read the description, looked at the "Best Deals" price, and figured 'what the heck.'
Turns out this golf ball sized thing is pretty useful. The light, a single LED without any fancy reflector or electronics, is fairly bright. The switch works as a momentary contact* (press for on, let go for off) or you can slide it and the light stays on. Any of the 12 magnets are strong enough to easily lift one of these Titan 11020 Folding Pocket Utility Knife (Twin Pack - Red/Blue).
The beam is fairly wide. There is a 12" spread at distance of about 14". It's bright enough to easily read from 6' away. Like the description says, you can aim the light be setting it down or using the magnets to attach it to any (ferrous) metallic object. There are so many magnets that aiming the light where you want it to go is no problem.
I'm finding it handy even when I'm not using it as a flashlight. The strong magnets make it easy to keep screws and other hardware from wandering off while I'm working on something.
My only complaint is that the light has some among of sideways "spill" and can occasionally get annoying if not down right painful.
That minor annoyance aside, this light have found a permanent home in my tool bag.
* Update - I liked the first one so much I ordered another. Turns out the second one doesn't have the momentary contact feature I mentioned. So, either they changed the switch or, more likely, one of the two switches isn't working as intended. So, if you get one without a momentary contact feature and are disappointed then buy another and maybe you'll get lucky :).

Gave these to my hubby & brother for Christmas. They absolutely loved them. Great little gift for the money & a very handy item.
"Supercute... but how do you replace the batteries?" 2010-04-15By

I am a bit disappointed with this LED light. First of all it is a great gift and a great novelty item. It looks like the sea mines that you see in the movies that explode when it touches the hull of sea vessels. They are supercute. I am a sucker for LEDs and magnets, and that is the main reason why I have to absolutely get it. I ordered 2 of them, one for myself and one as a future gift when I get to one of those instances when I could not think of anything to buy as a present. It is a conversation piece. I showed it to some of my co-workers and right there we spent out the window some productivity time. It attaches itself to PC towers, refrigerators, microwaves and might be nice to have when we do electrical surveys on panelboards.
The switch is tight, you have to push it carefully for fear of flipping off the plastic slider switch. It has a single white LED light. I guess it is bright, but that is subjective, I have a lot of LED gadgets around the house and I don't notice that it is very much brighter than the others.
My biggest gripe which nobody has mentioned yet in the reviews, is how to replace the batteries. As of now, I am still trying to figure out how to pry this clamshell open, this mine thingy, without blowing up on my face. There are a couple of ridges that looks like you press a penny to open it, but no success there. Neither there is any instruction in the package. It uses 3 LR44 button batteries. Made in China.

I bought this for my husband -the mechanic. He just loved it. He couldnt wait to take it to work and show it off to the other workers. After he demo'd it to them, that it can project the light at any angle while sticking to surfaces, they all wanted to know where to get one. He never told because he wants to be the only one who has such a cool little light, but now you know where to get one and it is a cleaver little gizmo. What impressed my husband and his friends is the magnets are very strong in force and the light is very bright. it will hurt your eyes if you look directly at it, which I guess is a good thing because you would need a bright light to point at what youre doing. its just so unusual and it works.

The Striker "Magnetic Light Mine" is a very bright LED light that, due to the many magnets, can be placed on any ferrous metal surface and be angled to shine right where you need it. I found these on clearance at an electronics store for somewhat less than found here, but will likely end up buying more for around the house, our small business, and as gifts. I'm not sure why almost everybody who picks this up wants to play with it, but it seems to be almost irresistible.
The body is plastic and it likely isn't going to take a lot of abuse.
