 "Compact Drill Review" 2010-08-30
By Gary Blank (WEXFORD, PA, US)
The Milwaukee 2601-22 is light and powerful. It is simple to use and change settings. In my experience as a medium user it has held its power and the indicator light allows you to quickly assess when to re-charge.

 "Milwaukee 2601-22 18 volt drill" 2010-08-30
By Tom Webster (Johnson City, Tn)
This is a great drill, the batteries are long lasting and quickly charged. The dead battery will charge quicker that the other runs down so you have no down time waiting on a battery to charge.

 "Drill has Issues!!" 2010-08-29
By arod (USA)
I was always a die hard Milwaukee fan and when I saw this drill at the local tool store, I just had to buy it. I have been using this drill for abut 2 years now and wish I would have done more research before purchasing. Please beware Milwaukee was bought out by a Chinese company TTI (Techtronic Industries) in 2005; they also own AEG power tools and Ryobi. Ever since TTI took over Milwaukee, they have had numerous battery issues and just over all quality problems. For one, my 18v 2601-22 drill has already had two batteries that will not hold charge and while screwing in an E-Z anchor my drill started smoking. In my opinion Milwaukee has gone from being commercial tools to a home owner's tool at a more expensive price. From doing research on tool forums many other people have ran into the same issues with there batteries. Also if you go to AEG webpage, there drills are exactly like Milwaukee tools just different color. I recently convinced my work to purchase a drill for me and we went with the Dewalt 18v Li Compact DCD760KI, had it about a month and so far this thing is a beast blowing away the Milwaukee but for my next personal drill I'm going to invest in the Metabo 18v LTX which is made in Germany except for the batteries which are made in China. But I urge you to look else where, Dewalt, Makita, Bosch, or Metabo which in my opinion are all solid companies making great Li cordless tools. The good old days of Milwaukee being made in the USA are over!

Milwaukee 2601-22

-Lightweight
-Balanced
-Excellent Ergonomics
-Awesome belt hook

-weak in power
-Crappy customer service

 "all around great package" 2010-06-10
By Benjamin Vincent (SLC, UT)
Buying an 18v drill a few years ago after doing much research I concluded that a Ryobi would suit me fine, but I have since tore the internals up. This Milwaukee 2601 is smaller, lighter and better built. The specs said it has more torque but I wondered if I would be able to tell the difference. Absolutely. I could more or less controll the Ryobi if the bit ever got stuck, but this one will twist your wrist right off. I have to use much less effort in both drilling and driving applications, this drill does all the work.
This milwaukee is the best in the class of compact drills with compact batteries. This drill is a most excellent and capable tool. It has the shortest head length of any 18v drill, it will bring 18v power to places others just can't fit. While not being the lightest, it is the lightest to have all metal gears. The battery lasts quite well for anything you shouldn't be using a full size maybe even hammer drill for. A 30 min recharge time on the battery isn't the quickest, but not doing it too quickly most likely extends the battery's life.

As to some other reviews, when considering a drill, be smart about it. You don't need a machine gun to take out varmint, and it's going to take some work to down an elephant with a varmint gun. Get the right tool for what you're going to be doing with it. For anyone considering this drill, if you want a lightweight, compact yet powerful drill to reach for everytime and anytime a hammer drill isn't required, this is it. You aren't going to be breaking into a concrete bunker with it, and it's overkill for hanging a picture but it will handle just about everything in-between.

 "Great drill/driver!" 2010-05-26
By P. Fleming (Lancaster, Ohio)
I recently replaced my "Crapsman" drill/driver with this one. Wow what a difference. This drill is far superior to any I have owned (and I have owned quite a few)and worth every penny. The compact design is nice and the Li-ion battery technology is far superior to the old ni-cads. Milwaukee really hit the mark with this one. The only criticism I have is that it does not have a place to store extra bits on the unit itself. This is my second Milwaukee tool and I am please with both.
