While this product may appear somewhat expensive to the uninitiated, The MFT3 is an awesome, portable, versatile and most of all wise investment. If i had any caveat i would suggest you buy it from a local hardware store. I have ordered two and both boxes were trashed by UPS. I don't know, perhaps Amazon has a better shipping carrier than UPS or Fed ex, but it's no fun to have your table delivered only to have to return it and wait for a new one.
I approached Festool about it, although supportive and responsive regarding my concerns: Absent pre-set stops on the table, they seem to think that it was the dealers fault. I'd be fascinated to hear how Amazon ships the table and what shape it arrives in. Festool maintains the table should be shipped by a fright carrier: So impose a fiat upon all dealers and implement a a price increase in 2011. . . . I think the manufacturer is responsible for their product, )saws or drones, yea, so im a socialist, get over it. Double box it with perimeter edge protection.
Don't waste your money and buy the table without the guides and fence, the tools are a 300 dollar value for 100 dollars,I'd recommend buying it with a Footstool plunge cut saw and getting 10% off on the saw. Buy the big one if you can utilize it, but the small one has lower operating costs and still will gang rip 2+ sheets of 3/4 ply with the rail attached. You need 2 55" rails. let the one on the table stay there and cart two 55" & a 32" for field work (just a guess). . . while if your a perfectionist, you can watch video's on aliening the fence to 1/100th"(only festools, kinda like Fairfax. . . .
Festool are grossly under priced in the US compared to their pricing in Europe. While called a table it is actually a significant member of a hybrid humanno/mechanistic artistic crafting system.
This is an ideal work station, whether in the shop or on the job-site. While it was developed for use with Festool plunge cut saws, it is also incredible versatile work bench With almost 360 degree radial clamping support and through drilling for bench dogs and unique Festool clamps, there are also opportunities to implement Dewalt's rail clamps, which fit Festool rails at half the price. It has the potential too become the job-site center of production; saving time, energy and fostering creativity. Every cabinet grade cut performed, route or join, the complex operation simplified by the unique properties of the system. If you need to cut dovetails or repair a drawer, this table will give you the space and help to do the job quickly and efficiently the first time. It's a sanding station & clamping station for gluing up custom moldings, panels, stair treads almost any fine wood production application necessary on a construction site.
While the table sits high enough to work comfortably all day at fine detail work that you don't want to bend over to perform. Whether sanding, gluing up and forming cabinet fronts and routing and joining parts. Using as a cutting station or just an ideal place for tool repair, plans or lunch!
Primarily it is utilized by myself and my fellow flooring contractors for gang cutting multiple pieces of flooring, in which case it is both faster and more accurate and with better results than many miter saws.
I'm also joining boards or sanding and clamping glue up and maybe i can use it as a router table with my porter Cable Router. . . I don't know if I'll rig a outrigger for it or drill the table ! Heresy!
Next month I'm using it for a 45 degree angle floor installation, the combination protractor head / angle stop fence and rip fence allow perfect cuts at ANY angle. No other tool/work station consistently delivers such versatility, control and results. The only limits on it's use are your imagination.

This is a part of the Festool system and is of limited use with other tools. With the accessories does a good job with cross cuts and dados. Its pretty pricy I bought the now discontinued MFT800 on blowout for $200. One advantage of the MFT3 is that you can link 2 or more for expansion but not to the earlier MFT. IMHO the Festool Parallel Guide Extension Set are more useful and can be used with any table.
